Precedent Board
I have designed and created a precedent board which shows all of my research linking my ideas and inspirations together in a harmonious manner to assist me to create a measuring product design that is not only fun but also effective and successful in practicality
Idealization
Conventional Measuring Cups: I was inspired by both a very rustic and metallic look and a very colourful and playful attempt on measuring equipment or devices.
Ideas For New Types of Measuring Equipment: I was stimulated by nature and its many different forms of stacking and nesting in nature and its undying designs. I have also used the design of Russian nesting dolls and their design with regards to how to nest several objects together. I was also encouraged by the rounded and curvature shape of certain company logos as well as the shape of a puzzle piece.
Stacking Toys and Lego: I was greatly enthused by the idea of children’s toys which can be used to stack and nest with one another which come in a variety of many different colours. The one stacking idea I really liked the most is Lego especially the stacking capabilities of Lego.
Technical Sketches
My chosen Idea was the Puzzle Pieces which can stack on top of one another, and can link to one another. The puzzle pieces will have a small extrude cut that fits perfectly inside one another to perfectly stack. Not only will it stack, but it will also nest in one another. My chosen name for this product is a Puzzle Plug. My design will have its own unique puzzle piece shape which is different to traditional puzzle pieces . This is seen in the sketches above.
3D Renders
This product will come in several colours. The specified colours will link with one another like a puzzle piece, but can stack and nest in any of the Puzzle Plug Pieces. Therefore only a red Plug can only connect like a puzzle with another red. However, a red can nest and stack any other colour plug.
This is a fun, playful and educational toy for children. This product will without a doubt teach your child about colours, spacial awareness, as well as generate and get their creative juices flowing.
